The radius of bioremediation of wells in the optimal subsurface flows management

In bioventing the radius of effectiveness of a single injection well play a very important rule. The mathematical model exposed uses the radius of bioremediantion to set-up an optimal strategy for the spatial collocation of the injection wells in the polluted site.

Epidemic reaction-diffusion system with cross-diffusion: modeling and numerical solution

Reaction-diffusion systems with cross-diffusion are analyzed here for modeling the population dynamics of epidemic systems. In this paper specific attention is devoted to the numerical analysis and simulation of such systems to show that, far from possible pathologies, the qualitative behaviour of the systems may well interpret the dynamics of real systems.

An Eulerian-Lagrangian method for tidal current computation

In this paper, a semi-implicit finite difference method for the 2-D shallow water equations is derived and applied. A characteristic analysis of the governing equations indicates those terms to be discretised implicitly so that the stability of the method will not depend on the celerity. Such terms are the gradient of the water surface elevation in the momentum equations, and the velocity divergence in the continuity equation. The convective terms are discretised explicitly by using either an upwind or an Eulerian-Lagrangian formula. The resulting algorithm, at each time step, required the solution of a linear give-diagonals system which is diagonally dominant with positive elements on the main diagonal and negative ones elsewhere. Thus, existence and uniqueness of the numerical solution is assured at each time step. An application of this method is finally considered for computing the tidal circulation in the MARE PICCOLO, an embayment in the Gulf of Taranto.

On the matrix forms to compute the FFT

The matrix recursive expression for the computation of the Discrete Fourier Transform of a complex sequence is constructed. The properties of the matrices involved in the recursive expression are exposed. The report contains also a software for the computation of the FFT.
